Bookkeeping FAQs
Do I need a Bookkeeper or a CPA?
My firm belief is that you need both. Here is why. Although a thin line can exist between the two, the differences lie in the tasks of each professional. I like to say that "a Bookkeeper is in the trenches with you". We are involved in frequent accounting activities, which allow us to have an involved, yet unbiased, view of the business's financial health in real-time. We can point to potential issues before they become larger problems.
CPA's record the past. If you work closely with your Bookkeeping Service, together you can actively take the pulse of how things are right now. What if you thought you owed $10,000 in taxes, and your bookkeeper advised that you could buy a truck and get ready to hire instead?
These two Professionals have different tasks but ultimately work hand in hand. It's important to employ each, so that you can focus on the money-making activities while you know your finances are accurate and dualy verified by Professionals. Although convenient, most "one-stop shops" that offer both accounting and tax services packaged together tend to have interns handling the operations instead of seasoned Bookkeepers that are more hands-on and customer centric. Having the same person "sign-off" on both the Bookkeeping and Tax could cause mistakes to go unnoticed longer.
R22BKS has established connections with strategic CPAs that we can refer out to, located around Phoenix, AZ.
I have a CPA—why do I need a bookkeeper too?
Think of it this way: your CPA is the quarterback making big-picture decisions, while your bookkeeper is the offensive line keeping plays moving smoothly. CPAs focus on tax strategy, financial planning, and complex compliance issues—usually once or twice a year. Bookkeepers handle the day-to-day work: recording transactions, reconciling accounts, paying bills, and managing payroll. When your books are clean and organized year-round, your CPA spends less time fixing problems and more time finding tax savings. For Phoenix businesses, this teamwork means lower accounting fees, fewer errors, and better financial insights. It's a partnership that protects your bottom line.
Does R22BKS only offer monthly Bookkeeping?
Although we can handle the accounting aspects semi-independently; we do require a certain level of committed cooperation from our clients. We actively meet with our clients on a monthly basis. We are not interested ln reviewing or checking ln less frequently as we are committed to a high level of service and accuracy for all of our clients.

What is the story behind the R22 name?
Route 22 Bookkeeping Solutions
Our business name is a play off of the famous Route 66. When I launched my business, we were living in Los Lunas, New Mexico - part of the original Route 66 Highway from 1926-1937 (when it was rerouted through Albuquerque for a more direct route). There are still signs showing that Main St. through Los Lunas was part of the historic route. I grew up listening to (Get your kicks on) Route 66 on long car rides, and coincidentally, Cars was my son's favorite movie when I launched my business in 2021.
I changed the number to 22 for a unique twist, stemming from both mine and my husband's birthdates. 22 and 3 are lucky numbers for our family.
Lastly, Solutions. I wanted to express that we have a wide range of services that provide Solutions (and the relief that comes with!) to the common problems of daily business operations (slow invoicing, unpaid invoices, late making payments, messy and/or inaccurate reports, indecision, etc). We understand that each business is on its own unique route. We are able to customize our services to your current and future needs. We're here to support (and celebrate!) your business as your financial needs grow.
How can Route 22 help my business grow?
Bookkeeping is more than just keeping score—it's about clarity that drives growth. Accurate financial reports show you exactly which products, services, or customers are most profitable. You'll spot trends, manage cash flow strategically, and plan with real numbers instead of guesses. Route 22 Bookkeeping also catches missed income, prevents duplicate payments, and ensures you're capturing every tax deduction—money that stays in your pocket.
For Phoenix businesses scaling up, reliable bookkeeping provides the financial foundation for hiring decisions, expansion plans, and loan applications. Plus, you reclaim 5-10 hours monthly to focus on what you do best: running your business, not chasing receipts....
When should I hire a bookkeeper for my Arizona business?
Of course, Route 22 Bookkeeping would recommend ANY business hire a bookkeeper. If you don't fully understand how your business is performing, then you can't make sound decisions. A bookkeeper can help you with professional, experienced financial analysis, so you understand.
That said, if you're spending more than 5-10 hours monthly on bookkeeping, it's time to hire help. That's also true if you're missing deadlines, uncertain about profitability, or dreading tax season. New business owners should consider bookkeeping support early, from month one if possible. It prevents bad habits and keeps financial records clean from the start. Growing companies need bookkeeping even more, as transactions increase, so does the risk of errors and missed deductions.
For Phoenix businesses with employees, payroll alone usually justifies professional bookkeeping. Simply put: if your books stress you out, a bookkeeper will change your life.
